Which Medical Insurance Company Should I Choose
Please don't cut corners by purchasing a less expensive policy. It is your responsibility to make sure that you acquire adequate coverage for your/your family's health and well-being. The guidelines below are to assist you in your decision and are in no way an endorsement for any particular company.
*Cigna: https://www.cignaglobal.com/health-insurance-plans/explained Review the Silver plan. This plan provides good over-all coverage and can be tailored to meet your needs. The standard policy does not include medical evacuation or outpatient treatment, however. You need add these options to maintain DSCA compliance and get approval.
- Benefits:Includes dental and vision coverage options. You must add these options when you purchase.
- Drawbacks: No pregnancy coverage
*Seven Corners-Global Security Plus or Global Security: Global Security Plus has limited newborn care (for the first 31 days after birth), wellness child care ($55.00 coverage for up to 3 visits per year for children under 19), and mental and nervous disorder coverage (up to $5,000 after 6 months). Global Security insurance does not include these options. Neither policy includes routine physical exams, drug and alcohol addiction, self-inflicted injuries, sports insurance, birth control, etc. Seven Corners Liaison Majestic is also compliant but does not have as many benefits as the other options.

- Benefits: Global Security Plus has better coverage for families with children under 19.
- Drawbacks: No pregnancy coverage for either policy type.
*Patriot America through United Health One: covers sudden and unexpected recurrence of a pre-existing condition, (up to $50,000 for dependents up to 65 years of age and under and $2,500 for dependents 65+) Most insurance companies do not offer coverage for pre-existing conditions at all. They offer limited dental coverage up to $100 for the necessary treatment of sudden, unexpected pain to natural teeth (other policies do not include this type of dental coverage - most include emergency dental which covers dental care if an accident occurs, etc.). They do not cover immunizations and routine physical exams, birth control, self-inflicted injuries, alcoholism, mental or nervous disorders, etc.

*Diplomat America: http://www.diplomatamericainsurance.net/ is a compliant and typical traveler's insurance with lower premiums but also limited coverage.
- Benefits: Although the coverage is limited, this company provides more reliable service in the local Carlisle area than some traveler's insurance policies with low premiums.
- Drawbacks: Because of the lower premiums, there are a lot of exclusions. It is coverage for emergency situations but not much more. "You get what you pay for."
*Trawick International & Atlas America (through Insubuy.com) CAUTION: both of these companies have provided unreliable service in the Carlisle area. While they both offer policies that can be approved and are considered compliant, we do not recommend these because of poor past performance.
- Benefits: They offer very limited coverage, so the initial cost is lower.
- Drawbacks: They routinely deny claims and appeals which create out of pocket expenses.
DO NOT choose insurance from: Allianz, IMGPatriot Exchange, Assist Card, Pan-American Life, Seven Corners - Inbound USA, and Seven Corners - Inbound Immigrant. They are not compliant and will not be approved.
