International Hall of Fame Inductees

LTG. DeWitt C. Smith, Jr. is responsible for the International Fellows Program's creation in 1977 with the first graduating class in June of 1978. The first countries to graduate were Australia, Japan, Korea and Germany. In 2010, the number of IF seats doubled from 40 to 80, making the War College the largest body of international fellows among senior service colleges. Since 1978 the United States Army War College has had over 2,200 international fellows graduate representing over 130 countries.

The U.S. Army War College International Fellows Hall of Fame was established in 1988 to honor Army War College International Fellow graduates who have attained the highest positions in their nation's armed forces, or who have held an equivalent position by rank or responsibility in a multinational organization. Qualifications include service as the senior officer in one of their nation's service components and international recognition as having made a significant military or humanitarian contribution to international peace and stability.
