Veterans Day in Central Pa., War College Commandant, students speak at ceremonies

Maj. Gen. John Kem, Commandant of The U.S. Army War College, will be speaking at the Joint Veterans Council of Carlisle, 11 November at 10:30 a.m., the Annual Veterans Day ceremony will be held on the 2nd Floor Courtroom of the Old Courthouse. The Cumberland County Honor Guard is providing the firing squad and bugler.

Additionally, 28 Army War College representatives will be featured speakers at multiple Veterans Day events around the greater Carlisle area.

 

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2017

Shippensburg - The Joint Veterans Council of Shippensburg  will host its annual Veterans Day parade. The parade will start at 2:00 p.m. The parade will form at Queen and King Streets at 1:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2017

Hagerstown, Md. – Hagerstown Rotary Club, 13316 Fountain Head Rd, at 12 p.m. The guest speaker is Lt. Col. David Rozelle U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Mechanicsburg – Carmella Condominium Association, 301 Carmella Drive will hold its annual event to honor veterans in our community, with a pot luck dinner at 5:30 p.m. The guest speaker is Col. Jeffrey Allison, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2017

Shippensburg – Shippensburg High School, 201 Eberly Dr, will honor veterans with a Veterans Day program from f8:30 to 9:30 a.m.Lt. Col. Russell Wolf, Russell J, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018, is the guest speaker.

New Oxford  – New Oxford High School, 130 Berlin Rd. will honor veterans with a Veterans Day program beginning at 10 a.m. Lt. Col. Timothy Brower, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018, is the guest speaker.

Carlisle – Rotary Club of Carlisle, 10 South Hanover Str. is hosting a Veterans Day Observance at 12 p.m. The guest speaker is Lt. Col. Matthew Schreiber, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Cumberland Valley High School's Patriot's Club will host a veterans appreciation ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9. Students and local elected officials will participate. A reception will be held afterward for military and active duty service members.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2017

Carlisle – Church of God Home retirement home, 801 N Hanover St. host a Veterans breakfast at 9 a.m. The guest speaker is Lt. Col. Lee Matthews, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Boiling Springs – Boiling Springs Interact Club, 4 Forge Road will host a Veteran's Day Breakfast at 9:40 a.m. The guest speaker is Lt. Col. Dylan Randazzo, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Cornwall – Cornwall Manor, 1 Boyd St. beginning at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker is Lt. Col. Antionette Rainey, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Waynesboro – Quincy Village, 3000 Wesley Dr. at 11 a.m. The guest speaker is Lt. Col. John Transue, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Harrisburg – COMCAST, 2801 Valley Rd. will host a Veterans luncheon at 12 a.m. The guest speaker is Lt. Col. Garrett Benson, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Summerdale – Central Penn College, 600 Valley Rd. will host a Veterans Day luncheon to honor veterans at 12 a.m. Lt. Col. Dexter Nunnally, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018, is the guest speaker.

Lock Haven – 4th Annual Veterans Foreign Wars Community Veterans Day Event, at 12:10 a.m. Col. Ernest Irvin, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018, is the guest speaker.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2017

Carlisle - 12:55 p.m. Dickinson College Football v Ursinus is a salute to the military and veterans, featuring honorary captains Col. Ken Adgie and veteran Neal Delisanti in the coin toss.  Dickinson will present college-US military partnership pins to all attendees.

Enola — the American Legion Post 751 will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony on Shady Lane in front of the Legion at 11:00 a.m. A meal off of canteen Menu will be provided to any veteran with proof of service. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be inside the Legion.

York – Normandie Ridge retirement community, 1700 Normandie Dr. will hold their Veterans Day service at 1:30 p.m. Col. Johnathan Frasier, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018, is the guest speaker.

Mechanicsburg — Lower Allen VFW Post 7530, 4545 Westport Drive will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony beginning at 11:00 a.m. The program will be a tribute to veterans past, present and future recognizing their sacrifices. The guest speaker is Col. Oren McKnelly. U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Greencastle – Veterans of Foreign Wars, 408 S. Washington Str.  Will recognize members of the Armed Forces Veterans past and present at 10:30 a.m.Lt. Col.  Gerald Law, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018, is the guest speaker.

Newville - The Newville Joint Veterans Council will conduct a Veterans Day service honoring all veterans by placing flowers at the Memorial located at the fountain and the playing of TAPS. Hometown Heroes Banners will be given to family members. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. In the event of adverse weather, the service will be held at the VFW, West Main Street. The guest speaker will be Robert Gilbert, US Marine Corps during Vietnam.

Mcconnellsburg  — American Legion Post 561, 201 N 2nd St, Fulton Co. Court House will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony beginning at 11:00 a.m. The program will be a tribute to veterans past, present and future recognizing their sacrifices. The guest speaker is Mr. Michael Haney, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Silver Spring Township — The Silver Spring Veterans Memorial Committee will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at Willow Mill Park, 80 Willow Mill Park Road, Mechanicsburg beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Carlisle – Cumberland Crossings retirement community, 1 Longsdorf way. Will hold their Veterans Day observance at 11 a.m. Lt. Col. John Broam, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018, is the guest speaker.

Gettysburg – VFW post 202, 528 East Middle Str.  Will recognize members of the Armed Forces Veterans past and present at 11 a.m. The guest speaker is Col. Christopher Ostby, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Mechanicsburg – Bethany Village Retirement Community will hold a Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. The guest speaker is Lt. Col. Earl Schonberg, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Mt. Holly Springs – Mt. Holly Springs American Legion 674 will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony at 1 p.m.at Trine Park. The guest speaker is Col. Bret Hyla, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Mt Union – Blue Juniata VFW post 5754, 14646 Croghan Pike will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony at 5 p.m. The guest speaker is Mr. Charles Brady, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Mercersburg – American Legion Post 517, 100 Keefer Drive will hold a Veterans Day Ceremony at 5:30 p.m. The guest speaker are Lt. Col Scott Nicholas andLt. Col. Jonathan Boling, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2017

Carlisle – Saint Patrick Church, Military Ministry, 87 Marsh Drive willhost a program honoring our veterans at 12 p.m. The guest speaker is LT. Col. Jeremy Mushtar, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.

Chambersburg - The United Churches of the Chambersburg Area, Historic Letterkenny Chapel, Franklin County Veterans and 9/11 Memorial Park Committee; will conduct the Annual Veterans Day Service at 3:00 p.m., at the Chapel, 2171 Carbaugh Avenue on the Letterkenny Army Depot. The guest speaker will be Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Grover DeVault.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2017

Hanover – Hanover High School, 401 Moul Avenue will host a Veterans Day Assemble at 8:15 a.m. The guest speaker is Col. Kip Korth, U.S. Army War College Class of 2018.
